The documents in the online collection are mostly letters written to Catherine “Kate” McGeachy. Correspondents include Davis relatives in Alabama and Arkansas, McGeachy relatives in Florida, and McMillan relatives in North Carolina. Many of the letters were written by men serving in the Confederate army in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, and Virginia, and stationed at the forts around Wilmington. Forty-four letters were written by soldiers serving in the 51st Regiment North Carolina Troops, with an additional 60+ letters penned by Catherine’s brother, John, a private in Company D of the Fifty-First Regiment. The List of Online Contents
The list below contains date, recipient, sender, and sender’s location for every image in the online collection. I added any content in [brackets]. Although the list isn’t comprehensive, it should help researchers identify files of interest to them.
