In May 1863, Captain William S. Norment commanded a detachment sent to Robeson County to round up deserters and conscripts who had not reported for duty. He wrote four reports to Major T. Brown Venable, General Clingman’s Adjutant. The reports are stored in the UNC Wilson Special Collections Library, Collection Number 00157, T. L. Clingman Papers, 1862-1865.
