A Word about Wounds

The soldiers of the 51st North Carolina suffered 456 non-lethal wounds in combat. Seventy-one of the men were wounded more than once. Of those seventy-one, 18 died from their second wound. Eight men were wounded three times; Archibald Nobles died from his third wound. Sergeant Major William D. McMillan claimed to have been wounded five times (Drewry’s Bluff, Bermuda Hundred, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, and Fort Harrison).
