ON THE LINES NEAR RICHMOND, VA,

To the Editors of the Journal:

You will confer a great favor to the families and friends by publishing the following list of killed, wounded and prisoners of Co. B, 51st N. C. T.:

Sergt Calvin Tucker, died July 12th, 1864, from a wound received on the lines July 11th, near Petersburg;

Corpl N. Parker, died June 4th, from a wound received at Drewry’s Bluff, Va., May 16th;

Corpl Chesnutt J Ezzell, died June 5th, from a wound received May 13th, at Drewry’s Bluff;

Privates Benjamin S. Best killed at Cold Harbor, Va., June 1st;

L W Hollingsworth, killed by a sharpshooter, near Petersburg, Va., June 25th;

Samuel R Register, died July 6th, from a wound received in trenches, July 5th;

William Tucker, killed by a shell, near Petersburg. July 1st;

Thaddeus L West, killed in battle, at Drewry’s Bluff May 16th;

Frederick Wood, died July 6th, from a wound received at Cold Harbor, June ,1st;

Isaac Merritt, died Aug. 5th, from disease;

Wm S Carroll, died Aug. 8th, from disease;

Wm Powell, died June 30th, from disease;

George W Whitfield, died May 24th, from disease;

Alexander Guy, killed in battle at Fort Harrison, Sept. 30th;

David Lamer, killed by accident on cars, July 15th.

There are two officers and fifteen men absent, sick; one officer and fifteen men present for duty, and eleven men present, sick. In case the enemy should attack us, we are all willing to do our part.

[NOTE: On May 1, 1864, Company B, 51st Regiment North Carolina Troops had 86 men on its rolls, 78 of whom were present. Seven additional men joined the company between May 1, 1864 and November 1, 1864.]
